Good friends, bad blogger December 2, 2008

picture-12

I got this message on Facebook from one of my favorite, hilarious, straight-to-the-point friends, Michelle, who also keeps up with our blog. That was 10 days ago… Let’s face it, I’m a bad blogger.

We have tons of photos we’re soooo excited to share, it’s just that there are always a zillion other (seemingly more important) things to do. We are also sooo excited for our new site to be completed that it almost seems like a waste of time to keep with this old clunker… But we’ll do better, we promise.

Thank you Michelle and everyone who keeps up with our little blog…….. We love sharing our latest work with everyone and are so thankful for all of our faithful readers :)

Recap October 2, 2008

I would love to post a bunch of the photos we did for West Nottingham Academy and Boys’ Latin but since they are intended for publication I want the schools to have first dibs on releasing them – so, I’m scrapping that post. Both schools are AMAZING and we had such a blast visiting and photographing the students at each school.

Here are some photos from Dan’s show at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts and also the little write up about it in the Philadelphia Inquirer

Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts. Dan Watson, a Michigander who lives in Knoxville, Tenn., and travels a lot, is the latest winner of a DCCA solo exhibit in a continuing series seeking proposals for exhibits from artists nationwide.

Watson’s archival digital inkjet photos, “In a Different Light,” portray mundane industrial and commercial building sites outside major cities in America, and he pictures them in color at night.

Watson offers the viewer a direct confrontation with the corrosive and threatening nature of industrial might. Works such as “Earthrise” and “Factory” are almost sinister in character. At the same time, their sensuous colors and night-lit, no-nonsense construction make some of them conventionally beautiful.

Dan’s brother, who is also an artist said, ” ‘the corrosive and threatening nature of industrial might!’ That’s a great review!”

A round of applause after his artist talk..

West Nottingham brought two bus loads of students to the show and Dan had a great time talking to some of his former students about his work.

Like a proud momma I had to take a pic of his name on the sign :)

As far as the rest of the trip, basically I got to spend one day in NYC with my BFFE Lindsay Oaks. Dan chauffeured us around all day and we had soo much fun! This one iPhone pic at Central Park is all we have to remember it by :(   (It’s small because I think I look bad.)

Straight out of the camera… September 18, 2008

Filed under: Engagements, Our Business — nataliewatson @ 1:47 am

It’s not too often any more that you see a photograph that is ’straight out of the camera.’  Basically all professional images have some level of post-production or ‘photoshopping’ done to them in order to get professional results (in terms of color, sharpness, and we won’t mention the the airbrushing techniques ; )

But, this image is an exception to that rule. It is pretty much straight out of the camera.  Eliza and Brent are such a cute couple, they’re perfect together!!! : )

Yes, our site is a bit different! We decided to update it to better fit what we are doing, which has changed in focus since Dan and I both started working for ourselves almost 1 year ago. Well, he’s been doing it for about 3 years now. We are ALL ABOUT weddings mostly. We are still taking architecture clients and we still have www.danwatsonphotography.com for that purpose but Watson-Studios is both of us now, not just Natalie, except I’m still doing all the kids. So, I (Natalie) had to get rid of all the cute girly stuff in the Watson-Studios design since there’s a man in the house. No more pink logo. No more little sheep. No more notebook paper. But, this will only be the look of our site for the next two months, until mid August (hopefully sooner) because we hired (two days ago) this great Pheonix-based company, ITDR www.intothedarkroom.com, to design us a photo blog-site, which will be our main site…and we are super, SUPER excited!! We are going to get a whole new look that better matches our work and I can’t wait to see what they come up with. BUT, we are going to have to get better at blogging, so I’m practicing now :)

So, it’s friday night and we are working tonight…well, we are going to. Dan is watching an Earl he recorded…we’re going to put up the new site and keep working on Jenna and Adam’s pictures…..sounds like fun, right? It is! We are totally in love what we do! We are so lucky to be able to work together, work from our house, sleep really late, work til 3 am if we want to, make our own schedules and take phone calls in our PJs. AND we always seem to get the coolest couples. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Here are a couple more that we just finished from Jenna’s wedding.

I love this one with momma ducks.

Playing around with my new actions… Troy, I think from the TR2 set. www.totallyradactions.com

Love this one of Michelle, one of the bride’s BFFEs, and her super cute beau.

of LOVE! (and weddings)

Dan and I have been sooo busy getting ready for the upcoming Wedding Season!! They say 75% of couples get married between May and October, which we think is definitely true in Knoxville. I’d say the first two weeks in December are also typically hot dates. Anyhow, we have been doing a lot of engagement shoots lately and I wanted to post this shot, which is now our ad….I will post more from this shoot when I get to the rest. This couple was so sweet and I wish them all the best.

This little guy was such a doll baby for me – sooo good during his shoot – not even a peep, happy the whole time! When I got his pictures up I had made this one black&white and his mom asked if I could leave the eyes in color but leave everything else black & white. At first I thought “Oh, this might look kinda cheesy.” But I really like it – it totally works with this picture!! I love it when my clients aren’t afraid to ask for something specific or come up with ideas like this. Well done!!

See ya 2007! January 8, 2008

I am so exited about 2008 – it is going to be a great year! Since we moved back to Knoxville in July, we have had a great start to our businesses ( Watson-Studios and Dan Watson Photography) over the last 6 months. Thanks so much to all of our friends and family who have been clients or recommended new clients to us. Both of our businesses rely on referrals and literally every one of our friends have been such a great help in doing that for us. We truly have the best friends ever. Special thanks to Lindsay and Jana & Lisa – we couldn’t have made it the last 6 months w/o you, seriously. Here is a look back at some of my favorite images/clients of 2007 – best of luck to everyone in 2008!

Some aerial shots for Lakefront Estates. So much fun. We were so nervous about the little plane but it was great and so smooth and so beautiful! Thanks to our 22 year old pilot, Josh Stovall, at the Smoky Mountain Flight Center for a great ride. The land around Knoxville is so beautiful with the mountains on both sides and there is so much water!! Here is Dan beside the plane and another aerial.

Magnets October 24, 2007

The last picture reminded me about the magnets. We can print pictures and words or whatever onto magnet paper – it’s super kewl. Here’s one I made for Lindsay for Mother’s Day. You just cut out the images and words for your fridge. Our magnet paper is 8 1/2 x 11 and is $15/sheet printed.
